Shoot-'em-up, RPG style!

One major aspect that an MMORPG has is combat. Yes, who can argue? While there are job classes, weapons, and choices, more than anything, one key factor that all players have to immerse themselves into is the battle system. And maybe you're curious. What exactly is the combat system of NCSoft's Tabula Rasa?

The combat system is pretty much basic without the frills of micromanagement. You'd need to scroll through your three different power types (Decay, Energy Blast, Push) and weapon types (Rifle, Machine Gun, Rocket Launcher, Flame-Thrower, Pistol) by hitting the "Q" and "E" buttons. Do note that these are not the final names of the various types, but as of E3, these were used as temporary names. Regardless of what they will eventually be called, if you learn this system by heart, you will go far. Each of these power and weapon types have their own pros and cons - every last one of them rely on varying factors: range, movement, fire power, etc.

Now with regards to the screen, your "selection system" would be the cross hairs located in the middle. You can use this target to talk to NPCs ("F" button) and receive missions. This target will also be used, of course, in battle. Once you lock on to your enemy, combat is engaged. One thing you might want to know right now is that this isn't a game that allows you to "hit and run", wherein you would just lock on to a target and leave your computer. No. That's not the way it works here.

It's basically like a shoot-'em-up, RPG-style of combat wherein you have to engage an enemy, and use all your skills to defeat them. It's a reactive battle system, and the developers are making sure that if you leave your keyboard alone while in combat, you will die.

Simple enough, right? Survival is key; the combat system is your friend. You shouldn't let it limit you, but use it to its full extent to win instead. Keep checking back for more updates!
