V for Vendetta, Moore, Lloyd - Image 1We posted an article one month ago that invited readers to do a little thought exercise. Here's what we said: "On the 5th of November we're going to post an article or two about video games, gadgets, technology, and general geekness ... the things about video gaming and technology that ought not be forgotten."

So here's our list of some video gaming and technology moments worth remembering. Hope this gets you thinking (and feeling nostalgic too!). And we look forward to your comments (and arguments). What do you remember and wish that the world will never forget?

NCSoft Logo - Image 1 - Image 1JoyStiq managed to score an interview with NCsoft boss Richard Garriot and Executive Producer Brian Clayton. The talk revolved mostly around the MMORPG industry and their (NCSoft) plans to support the PlayStation 3 with MMO-type titles. Their latest project - Tabula Rasa - was also touched; and surprisingly, they also signified plans to dabble on developing for the PlayStation Portable in the future.

According to Clayton, they're looking at a number of ways on how to beef up the PSP games frontline. A fully immersive and working MMO for the said handheld isn't that farfetched, with Clayton saying that they "see a number of opportunities with the PSP as a standalone MMO or as an extension to our full-blown MMOs on PC and PS3". Hmm... MMO game on PSP, sounds good 'ey? Their plans are best summed in this quote:

I would argue that developing a handheld MMO could be the largest challenge in game development. For example, the game needs to be developed from the onset to address limited communication tools, screen real estate and controls, which are all intrinsic to providing a quality MMO experience. We have a number ideas and solutions to address the above-mentioned concerns, but can't go into those details right now.

VistaGametactics reports that Microsoft featured in the CES games that allowed for interaction across Windows Vista and the Xbox 360.

The first wave of Live titles that had such cross-platform capabilities included Microsoft Game Studios' Shadowrun and Mattel's UNO. The Live gaming and entertainment network will enable gamers to interact only across both of Microsoft's gaming platforms. Other titles for Windows Vista to have Live support include Halo 2.

They also marketed Windows Vista as an opportune platform for casual gamers. They cite Luxor 2 for Windows Vista, Crystal Quest for Windows Vista, and the ever popular Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved as example of their push to further cement Windows Vista as a good platform for casual gaming. Microsoft also used CES as an opportunity to further promote their Games for Windows brand. The Game for Windows portfolio includes the following game titles:
  • Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (Eidos Interactive/Funcom)
  • Age of Empires III: The Warchiefs (Microsoft Game Studios/Ensemble Studios)
  • Alan Wake (Microsoft Game Studios/Remedy)
  • Bioshock (2K Games/Irrational Games)
  • Company of Heroes (THQ Inc./Relic Entertainment)
  • Crysis (EA Partners/Crytek)
  • Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (Activision/Splash Damage)
  • Flight Simulator X (Microsoft Game Studios/ACES Studio)

  • LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (LucasArts/TT Games)
  • Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar (Midway/Turbine Inc.)
  • Marvel Universe Online (Microsoft Game Studios/Cryptic Studios)
  • Rail Simulator (EA Partners/Kuju Entertainment)
  • Shadowrun (Microsoft Game Studios/FASA Studio)
